Rakiyah Bacchus passed away peacefully in Scarborough on 20th January 2025 at the age of 97.
Rakiyah was born on 4th September 1927 in Cornelia Ida, Guyana to the late Mohamed Ishmail Foujee Rawodey and Jenet Deen. She was the seventh of eleven children, a loving mother, sister, and a pillar of strength for her family throughout her life.

Grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
Sister of Mohamed Ferouze (Twins Pharmacy), Rehannah Ishmael, Mohamed Hassan, Mohamed Yacoob, Mohamed Nasir (Twins Drug Service/Islamic Foundation of Toronto), Jamela Ishmael, Zabeeda Ishmael, Mohamed Kassim, Bibi Naseema and Mohamed Hoosein Ishmael.
Family Tribute
Rakiyah Bacchus was a devoted wife, a caring and nurturing mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
Throughout her life, Rakiyah was a woman of strong Islamic values, whose love for Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) was reflected in her actions, prayers, and the way she treated those around her. She was a constant source of guidance and support, always willing to lend a listening ear and a helping hand. Her gentle spirit, warmth, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.
May Allah grant her eternal peace and grant her family strength and patience during this difficult time. We ask for your prayers for Rakiyah’s soul and for all who mourn her passing. May Allah forgive her sins, elevate her in rank, and grant her a place in Jannatul Firdaus, the highest of Paradise.
