Muharram 26, 1442 AH

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.

The Islamic Institute of Toronto (IIT) is deeply saddened to learn of the senseless killing of our Brother Mohammed Aslim Zafis.

Br. Mohammed was a volunteer caretaker at the International Muslims Organization (IMO) in Etobicoke; he was brutally murdered while performing his routine duties at the mosque.

On behalf of our scholars, teachers, volunteers and staff, we extend our deepest condolences to Mohammed’s family and the entire IMO community – our prayers are with you as you navigate this difficult time. We also extend our support to the family and the community.

As community- based organizations, we rely heavily on our volunteers, especially over the last 6 months, as we make every effort to keep our congregation safe. Like Mohammed, our volunteers have provided selfless service in this regard. That is why Mohammed’s death is particularly challenging for all of us.

We pray that God Almighty accept his efforts and multiply his rewards.

The IIT joins with all peace-loving Canadians to strongly condemn this act of violence. We have confidence that the Toronto Police Services will investigate and bring the perpetrator to justice.  We also encourage anyone with information to call the authorities.
