Review of “Last Journey” Book by Sheikh Ahmad Kutty
Last Journey, by Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, is a thoughtful and well-organized book that helps readers see death not as something to fear, but as a meaningful and sacred transition. It serves both as a source of comfort and as a practical guide, combining Islamic teachings with real-life experiences of illness, dying, and mourning.
The book is meant to support people during some of the most difficult moments in life, offering calm guidance, dignity, and hope. The author explains that preparing for death is not something done only at the end of life.
Instead, it is a lifelong process that involves caring for both the body and the mind. By presenting faith in this way, the book shows that the “last journey” begins long before the final moments, through everyday spiritual awareness and practice.
When the book discusses illness and preparing for death, it offers something many medical guides do not: emotional support and clear religious understanding. A key message throughout the book is that no one should face death alone. Faith is shown as a shared responsibility, expressed through kindness, presence, and caring for one another.
The heart of the book focuses on Islamic practices such as washing the body, shrouding, burial, and prayers for the deceased. These steps are explained carefully and respectfully. By calling each act “sacred,” the author reminds readers that these are not just duties, but acts of love, worship, and honor for the person who has passed away.
In its final chapters, including The Beautiful End and The Soul’s Grand Journey, the book moves beyond physical rituals to reflect on the afterlife. It encourages readers to live with intention, prepare ethically, and trust in God’s mercy.
Last Journey stands out as a balanced and meaningful work. It is neither overly emotional nor coldly technical. Instead, it treats death with respect and care, making it a valuable resource for anyone who wants to understand how faith supports a person from their final breath and beyond
