Assalamu Alaikum,
Per the Fiqh Council of North America, the astronomical new moon is on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Therefore, the first day of Ramadan 1445 is on Monday, March 11, 2024, inshaAllah. Taraweeh at the IIT will begin with Salaatul Esha on Sunday March 10, 2024 at 9:00pm.
Daylight Savings Time will end on Sunday, March 10 so please ensure that you turn your clocks one hour forward. Most smartphones would adjust automatically.
Please note that IIT follows the method of calculation as accepted by the Fiqh Council of North America. For the full Islamic calendar please visit fiqhcouncil.org/calendar
Please also note that IIT follows a 12-degree calculation for the time of Fajr based on the research or Shaikh Ahmad Kutty and other scholars. This means that our starting time for the fast will be about 16-20 minutes later than most calendars. Those desirous of starting earlier should consult calendars with a 15-degree calculation.

Ramadan 2024 Theme – “My Ummah. My Ummah”
‘Abdullah b. Amr b. al-‘As reported:
Verily the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited the words of Allah, the Great and Glorious, that Ibrahim uttered. My Lord! lo! they have led many of mankind astray:” But whoso followeth me, he verily is of me” (al-Qur’an, xiv. 35) and Jesus (peace be upon him) said:” If thou punisheth them, lo! they are Thy slaves, and if Thou forgiveth them-verily Thou art the Mighty, the Wise” (al-Qur’an, v 117). Then he raised his hands and said: O Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah, and wept; so Allah the High and the Exalted said: O Gabriel, go to Muhammad (though your Lord knows it fully well) and ask him: What makes thee weep? So Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to him and asked him, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) informed him what he had said (though Allah knew it fully well). Upon this Allah said: O Gabriel, go to Muhammad and say: Verily We will please thee with regard to your Ummah and would not displease thee.
Sahih Muslim
In these times of great distress, unimaginable pain and horror experienced by the Ummah, this Ramadan we reflect on the promise of Allah to His beloved messenger and take comfort in the opportunities for mercy and forgiveness that Ramadan brings us.
