October is Islamic History Month and we have prepared a wonderful platter (literally and figuratively!) for you!
Programs: Starting next Saturday, we will have weekly lectures and exhibits on our theme “Food: A Blessing and a Struggle”, exploring ideas about food in the Muslim world; Islamic concepts surrounding food and some critical discourse about food relating to production, consumption, over-consumption and the weaponizing of food. Plus, we are collaborating with Relief agencies working in the impoverished areas of the world to raise funds for hunger and disaster relief.
Saturday October 8: Focus on Pakistan! (Exhibits open at 6:00 PM; Program starts at 7:00 PM)!
Fun: We are including some “fun” elements also – challenging high school students to prepare a traditional (and “endangered”) dish and bring it to IIT on the Saturday of their choice for judging. Prizes will be awarded. More details on this are forthcoming!
Food Drive: We have arranged with Muslim Welfare Canada to organize a food drive during the month! Two barrels are set up at IIT lobby – please bring a non-perishable (canned, packaged) food item next time you visit IIT and drop it in one of the barrels.
